Hassed (حسد) refers to the Egyptian superstition that if someone looks at you with envy or with an “evil eye” something bad will happen to you. Turning this concept into a character I created an Egyptian goddess character sharing the same name.

Hassed is born the daughter of Anubis the god of the death and Bastet the goddess of pleasure. She was born after Anubis cheated on his wife the goddess Anput in order to get her jealous, thus Hassed was literally born out of envy and betrayal. Sharing the characteristics of Bastet who has the body of a cat, Hassed is a carcal cat native only to Egypt. 

Anput is furious and takes it out on Hassed throughout her entire childhood. She is starved of the food of the gods and grows sickly and thin. Hassed becomes envious of the children Anubis and Anput have who are treated with love and never forgotten. She becomes the goddess of envy and betrayal after all the envy/betrayal she has felt, seen, and caused. 

Hassed appears to humans whenever they begin to feel envious and she encourages them down the road of betrayal, envy, greed. As punishment for her acts the gods gouge out one of her eyes and replace it with an evil eye in order to control her powers.
